What Happened?
On August 8, 2025, Canada had its third Express Entry draw of the week, awarding 2,500 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) for legal residence. This was a French-language category draw, targeting candidates with expert proficiency in French and a score of at least 481 Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS).
Why a French-Language Draw?
Canada is placing a combined effort on bringing in more French-speaking immigrants to areas beyond Quebec. These targeted calls not only enhance the prospects for francophone applicants for obtaining permanent residence but also augment Canada's bilingual identity as well as economic growth in diverse communities.
What Was Previous to This Draw?
Let's look at the three Express Entry invites this week:
August 6 (PNP Draw): 225 ITAs; CRS cut-off was 739 (excluding those with provincial nominations).
August 7 – CEC Draw: 1,000 ITAs issued; CRS cut-off 534 (Canadian Experience Class candidates).
August 8 – French Draw: 2,500 ITAs issued; CRS cut-off 481 (French-speaking candidates).
3,725 ITAs were issued this week.
What's the Tie-Break Rule?
In case of more than one candidate with the same CRS, candidates whose Express Entry profiles were submitted earlier get priority.
Why You Should Care
Low CRS cut-off: French-language draws usually have low score requirements, and these are excellent opportunities for qualified candidates.
Additional points for language proficiency: If you are expert in French, you can receive up to 56 additional CRS points, and this can significantly boost your score.
Excellent timing: This trend of draws indicates that there are several channels open including for French-speaking individuals, Canada-experienced candidates, and provincial nominee-eligible candidates.
What Can You Do Now?
Verify your profile: Do you meet the FSWP, CEC, or FSTP criterion? Do you possess strong French skills?
Improve your French: High scores = greater likelihood.
Maintain an up-to-date Express Entry profile: Submitter status is crucial in case of score ties.
Monitor upcoming draws: Express Entry is keeping us all busy this week—this might be your chance!
